NCAA DI College World Series Finals Recap

The 2024 Tennessee Volunteers etched their name in the annals of college baseball history on Monday night in Omaha, clinching the program's first national title with a nail-biting 6-5 victory over No. 3 Texas A&M in game three of the Men's College World Series at Charles Schwab Field.

The top-ranked Volunteers capped off an extraordinary season with 60 wins en route to their MCWS crown – becoming the first SEC team in history to reach the 60-victory milestone in a single season. They also joined an elite group as just the fourth conference team to achieve the trifecta of winning the SEC regular season title, SEC Tournament title, and the MCWS in the same year.

During the season, Robin Villeneuve (Gatineau, QC) played in 34 games for the Vols, batting .287 with 23 hits (5 homers, 3 doubles), 22 RBIs, and 20 runs.

Canadian Star Émilien Pitre in the CWS

Émilien Pitre (Repentigny, QC) with the Kentucky Wildcats continued his strong season during the CWS, putting up good offensive stats:
  • June 15: 1 run, 1 hit (double), 2 BB, and 1 stolen base in a 5-4 extra-inning victory over NC State
  • June 17: 1 hit in a tough 1-5 loss to #1 Texas A&M
  • June 19: 2 runs, 2 hits (including his 10th home run of the season), and 2 RBI in a 4-15 loss to #3 Florida

Pitre's outstanding season earned him Third Team All-American honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings. The junior second baseman also secured a spot on the Southeastern Conference All-Defensive Team for the second consecutive year. With a stellar .992 fielding percentage and a .301 batting average, Pitre proved to be a true dual-threat player.
